Teeth Whitening

You know you should not hide your beautiful smile just for those yellow colored teeth. Your smile is after all so precious. Have you tried the regular teeth whitening toothpaste? We can guess that didn’t give you enough results.

The best solution to get sparkling white teeth is teeth whitening procedure by a dentist. It is as easy as purchasing whitening tools from the retailer. Apart from treating your discolored teeth, the method is also beneficial for other dental purposes. So, get your queries cleared first.

What is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening is a technique to lighten your stained and discolored teeth. It has a great impact on beautifying your teeth and their appearance. However, this is certainly not a one-time procedure as you would have to repeat it with time. Teeth whitening is one of the most preferred options in cosmetic dentistry.

How do stains occur?

This is something you should understand first. Our teeth enamel gets a thin coating called pellicle that results in stains. Again, pores in the enamel also result in discoloration. Other reasons can be –

Chewing of tobacco
Unhealthy or careless dental habits
Drinking tea, coffee, and red wine
Oral injury
Aging
Certain medications
We first do a thorough analysis of your dental health before coming to a conclusion and recommending solutions.

What are the options for teeth whitening?

Dentists know the best, what is appropriate for your condition. But there are some options commonly used.

1. Toothpaste:
Not the regular ones, but whitening toothpaste that your dentist recommends can remove stains. They have mild abrasives that work as a scrubber on the discolored teeth. Our dentist suggests you use those products that are authorized, hence safe.

2. Whitening Rinses:
Whitening rinses work like mouthwashes to freshen your breath with added benefit of whitening the teeth. But this is often not much effective. Consult your doctor before using any such product.

How does the dentist perform teeth whitening?

If you get a whitening process in the clinic, your dentist will first take the picture of your teeth and then detect the actual cause of discoloration and staining.
He will then clean the teeth for working on it. However, if you have cavities, that need to be cured before conducting the tooth whitening process.
Once ready, the procedure begins.
There are two types of whitening procedures:

1. Vital Whitening:
While the common vital whitening process makes use of gel, if you get it done in the dentist’s office, he would use more powerful gels. These are activated with the help of a specialized laser that quickens the bleaching.
The process takes 30 to 90 minutes with 2 to 3 settings according to your dental condition. We shall guide you through for the best results.

2. Non-vital whitening:
If you have had a root canal treatment, then the vital whitening method might not work for you. In that case, the dentist would use a non-vital whitening method so that your teeth get whitened from within.
